The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is known to the locals, and people all over the world as the Super Bowl of Swine. It takes place in the midst of the Memphis In May International Festival, and more than 90,000 pork lovers from around the globe attend every year. For three days out of the year, there's a sweet smelling cloud haning over Memphis. The contestants are trying to win their chance at ruling the pig-dom, and more than $61,000 in prizes.
Tom Lee Park is transformed into the world's largest barbecue restaurant, for all to enjoy. The Sharp Stage provides music and entertainment inbetween feasts and tastings. This stage is also where the Ms. Piggie contest takes place. This contest is probably unique to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, because all it entails is grown men in snouts and tutus. You'll see funny faces, famous faces, and while it's all in good fun, the grillmasters take this event very seriously, and hope to get their spot on one of many national broadcasts that focus on this contest each year.
