A few days are not enough for the birthplace of rock 'n roll and home of the blues, as Memphis has an entire month of festivals and activities during May. The festivities are broken up into four distinct weeks of revelry.
The first, and most famous week, is The Beale Street Music Festival, which is followed by the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in the second week. Both of these weeks are great for travelers to participate in.
The third week is more for catered towards locals, as it is the International week. This week is focused on a different country each year, with the intention to have all local children experience a full breadth of cultures by the time they leave high school.
The month closes with a grande performance by the Sunset Symphony. Visitors will spend an entire day relaxing near the Mighty Mississippi with picnic equipment, brilliant music, and a vibrant sunset.
