Annual Celebration of the Arts Gum Tree Festival
The GumTree Festival, held every May in Tupelo, Mississippi and sponsored by the GumTree Museum of Art, is the area's premier annual celebration of local art and music. Held on the lawn of the Lee County Courthouse, this two-day weekend festival attracts painters, sculptors, and other artists from all over the South. These artists show their work and compete for over $10,000 in prize money. Much of the displayed art also goes up for sale at silent auction, making the festival a destination for the area's art collectors.
Music is also a large part of the GumTree festival - a constant lineup of bluegrass and folk musicians perform throughout the weekend. Every year a singer-songwriter competition is also held, where up and coming folk rockers can perform for a crowd and win prizes. Child artists and musicians can also enter into competition at the festival - prizes include scholarship money and art/music classes and supplies. Some events are free and some incur an admission fee. Please contact the GumTree Museum directly to inquire about this year's festival dates and events.
