Graceland Mansion
Graceland Mansion
Settled on 14 acres, the mansion that the Presleys called home is the second most famous house in America and one of the most visited homes in America today.

Memphis is a place with a lot of history, a lot of culture, and therefore, a lot of attractions. With so many different things to chose from, how do you know what's right for you? Well, here's a general outline some of the different activities and sights, and maybe what type of person would enjoy it and who would not.

It only makes sense to start with Elvis Presley's Graceland. Of course, this is an attraction tailored to lovers of rock 'n roll, but a history buff, no matter what sort of music they enjoyed, would find it interesting as well. Elvis Presley is a large part of history for countries all over the world, and his mansion and all his belongings reflect just that.

Mud Island River Park is a great place for children, and the outdoor lovers. Kids can take off their shoes and walk down the 5-block replica of the Mighty Mississippi. There's the monorail, which is fun for just about everyone, and there's the Mud Island River Park Adventure Center, where you can rent canoes, bicycles, kayaks, and pedal boats.

The National Civil Rights Museum is a learning experience, or a walk down memory lane for people of all types, colors, and races. The exhibits depict the world-changing events that took place during the mid 1900's, in America and other nations around the world. The Museum, itself, was formerly the the hotel that was the backdrop for the dramatic events of April 4, 1968, when Martin Luther King Jr.'s life was suddenly taken.

Kids of all ages can enjoy a day at the Children's Museum of Memphis. There's painting, sculpting, and other types of arts. Children and adults alike can enjoy sitting on a real police motorcycle, or running down the giant arteries of a human heart, or even climbing a skyscraper. Obviously, this would not be an ideal place to visit for those traveling without children, but even those visiting Memphis with older children would find it entertaining and insightful.

Sun Studio is home for music lovers of all types. All the biggest names, including The Beatles, have recorded at Sun Studio. Even younger generations can appreciate this tour, becuase it's where their music got it's start. From rock 'n roll, to country, to r&b, it all began right here on Union Avenue.

Finally, there's the Blues City Cafe. This isn't just an ordinary cafe, it's a cafe for people who really want to know what Memphis is all about. They serve that famous Memphis barbecue, and have live entertainment regularly. You can count on having an authentic Beale Street experience at Blues City Cafe. However, this may not be the place for vegetarians, people who don't enjoy loud music or dancing, or people who just in general are afraid of cutting loose.

Tour Guide
FedEx Express had a class to tour the Civil Rights Museum on May 10th and the participants had nothing but raved reviews for Lakita (I think that is her name). They appreciated her knowledge and professionalism. Based on this, I wanted to send in a note of THANKS to Lakita and to let you know how much her input meant to the class. Lakita, keep up the GREAT job you are doing for the museum. Doris Adams HR Administrator FedEx Express 901-434-6146
