Sitting in the heart of Memphis on Central Avenue, you will find one of the most interesting and educational museums in the area. The Pink Palace Museum is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with the whole family and is filled with exciting exhibits that you won't find at other museums, as well as an IMAX theater and a planetarium. From dinosaurs to grocery stores, you can find out more about the world you're living in at the Pink Palace Museum.

The exhibits at the Pink Palace museum largely cover the history of the Memphis area from prehistoric times through the present, but you can also find exhibits covering topics from outside the region as well. You will love learning more about the first self-service grocery store in the region, Piggly Wiggly, by exploring a replica of the first Piggly Wiggly store. Explore the history of the area through an interactive diorama with audio-visuals tracing the region from Spanish exploration through the Civil War and yellow fever epidemics. Take a look inside the region's health care industry with the museum's award-winning medical exhibits. There are also a number of other exciting permanent exhibits, including dinosaurs and fossils, and a miniature circus display.

The museum also hosts traveling exhibits that keep visitors coming back to the museum over and over again. Some of the previous traveling exhibits have covered topics such as the music industry, earthquakes, the underground system in Memphis, the train system in Memphis, and others.

While you are at the Pink Palace, take some time to experience the sensational movie experience of the region's only IMAX theater. This IMAX screen stands four stories high and features a six channel IMAX Digital surround sound system, creating the perfect setting to transport you to another world inside the  movie. Previous movies have included those taking you under the sea and to the Grand Canyon.

You can also take a journey to distant galaxies with a visit to the on-site Lida Gammill Sharpe Planetarium. This 130-seat theater-in-the-round provides you with a comfortable setting to travel to distant solar systems and far away worlds. Through planetarium technology projecting images on a domed ceiling and a superior sound system, the Sharpe Planetarium features several shows each day that are simply out of this world.

With so much to see and and do at the Pink Palace Museum, you don't want to miss out on your chance to visit this exciting venue. Make plans to explore the unique exhibits as well as the IMAX theater and planetarium shows at the Pink Palace Museum on your next trip to Memphis!
