Tupelo's Elvis Presley Festival (June 2 - 4, 2006)Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elvis' homecoming to Tupelo, Mississippi at the Annual Elvis Presley Festival. Located about one hour and 45 minutes from Memphis, this event re-lives and celebrates the day that Tupelo's native son came home to perform as a super star. The festival takes place all weekend long with a wide range of events and activities including live musical entertainment, a re-creation of the 1956 homecoming parade through Tupelo, a carnival, concert, and so much more. Below are additional details about the 2006 Elvis Presley Festival. Homecoming Parade Saturday at 10AM, this re-creation of the famous homecoming parade will kick off. Traveling through the city, guests can go back to 1956 and experience the spectacular welcome that Elvis got when he came home. The 50th Anniversary Concert Re-creation On Saturday night, this event will feature live performers along with video footage and audio clips from the original concert as well as stories and first hand accounts from the people who were there when Elvis came back to Tupelo as a star.
