Historic Homes in Memphis, TN

The Memphis area has a number of historic homes and museums that are well worth visiting during your next trip to the area.

Davies Manor is Shelby County in Tennessee's oldest home. It is a log and chink two story home made of white oak logs on what was once a 2,000 acre plantation. Probably built by native American, Joel Royster expanded the house from one room to two stories in 1850 before selling it to Logan Early Davies to oversea the Davies Plantation.

The Victorian Village of Memphis is located in the Eastern quadrant of downtown Memphis. During Memphis' early period of growth in the 1800s, Victorian style homes were built by wealthy Memphians. Included are not just the Magevey house but also the Mallory-Neely on 652 Adams, the Woodruff Fontaine, and what was once the home of the riverboat owner, The Harsson-Goyer-Lee house.

The Magevney House sits on 198 Adams Avenue in Memphis and is located in the Victorian Village. It is one of the oldest residences in Memphis. The first Catholic Mass in Memphis was observed in this house, the first Catholic marriage took place here and also the first ever Catholic baptism was performed in this Magevney homestead.

The Woodruff-Fontaine house at 680 Adams Avenue features an exhibit of clothing from the Victorian ear with their cinched waists and layers of velvet. Tours are held every hour.
