Visit the site of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. when you come to the National Civil Rights Museum.

Memphis is located in the southeastern corner of Tennessee, where the mighty Mississippi River separates Memphis from Arkansas and Mississippi.

Memphis By Car...

The main highways coming into Memphis are I-40, I-55 and I-155. Depending on what direction you are coming from, you will more than likely be using one of these main roads to enter Memphis.

  • From Little Rock, Arkansas. Take I-40 east and you will arrive directly in Memphis.
  • From Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Take I-59 East toward Gulfport. Before you get to Gulfport, you will exit onto I-55 North, which goes directly into Memphis near downtown.
  • From St. Louis, Missouri. Take I-55 South and you will enter Memphis from West Memphis, Arkansas.
  • From Nashville or Knoxville. Take I-40 East and enter Memphis on its northwest side.

Memphis By Air... Memphis International Airport

  • Memphis International Airport. The Memphis International Airport (airport code: MEM) is a bustling airport that is also the hub for FedEx. Rental cars, shuttles and cabs are available at the airport. Rental cars are picked up at a location away from the terminal, so if you are renting, you will need to take a rental car shuttle to the facility. If you are taking a cab, be aware that the airport has negotiated fixed rate fares for trips within the city. If you are going outside the city, negotiate the fare with the driver prior to leaving the airport (for your protection). There is also an airport shuttle to the downtown area called DASH, operated by the Memphis Area Transit Authority.

Memphis Shuttles, Trolleys and Buses...

  • Main Street Trolley. These antique trolleys serve several downtown attractions including The Pyramid, Pinch District, Memphis Cook Convention Center, Beale Street, Orpheum Theatre and National Civil Rights Museum. This is definitely a fun way to see the sights. An all day pass can be purchased for $2.50.
  • Memphis Bar Hopper. This shuttle runs on a 24-hour schedule with service to Beale Street, Graceland, and other entertainment districts.
  • Sunrise Shuttle. This shuttle is good for sites outside of the Memphis city limits.
  • Tunica County Shuttle and Tunica Shuttle Company offer shuttle transportation to the Tunica, Mississippi casinos and hotels, located about 25 miles south of Memphis.

Memphis Cabs and Limos...

  • 1-800 Book A Limo. Offering sedans, limos and vans.
  • SFAX Limousine Service. Offering towncars, limos and vans.
  • There are many cab companies in the area for visitors' convenience. Try Advantage Cab, Checker Cab, CityWide Cab, Metro Cabs and Yellow Cabs.

With so many ways to get around Memphis, you should be able to get anywhere in the area that you need to reach.

Elvis Presley's Graceland Platinum Tour
My daughters and I went there in April of 2001. Stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel in the Platinum and Gold suite. Had the best time of our lives. Had dinner at the beal st restaurant. Our meal consisted of fried banana sandwiches and banana pudding. To sum it all up walking through the doors of the graceland mansion we definately felt his presence there. Intend on returning very soon.

National Civil Rights Museum
I was really moved with what I experience at the Museum. I really like the why you could pause the recorder and stay at that history setting as long as you liked. I felt like I was at the Protest, and the March On Washington. It really made you feel like you were apart of history. I will never forget my trip to the Civil Rights Museum. Thank you,
