Autozone Park and Fedex Forum in Memphis
If you're looking forward to enjoying the major sporting events, world class concerts and shows, and other great entertainment while you're in Memphis, you will have several venue options to choose from. Two of the largest, most popular, and most flexible are the AutoZone Park and FedEx Forum.
The AutoZone Park opened in 2000 and is home to the minor league baseball team, the Memphis Redbirds. This grass field sits on Union Avenue and holds 14,320 visitors. The baseball field was built largely to comply with major league standards. While many cities build minor league stadiums and have to worry about the team moving to another city. However, since the Redbirds are owned by a non-profit community foundation, Memphis has little concern about this happening. The only other team in the country with the same situation is the NFL's Green Bay Packers. You can also find many games for the University of Memphis' baseball team held here.Previously, the AutoZone Park hosted the VooDoo Music Experience in October 2005 after its original New Orleans location was canceled due to Hurricane Katrina. The park has also hosted the exhibition Civil Rights Game in March 2007. The FedEx Forum was built in September 2004 and has a prime location just off of Beale Street in downtown Memphis. Notably, the FedEx Forum is known as a cutting edge arena with high tech innovations throughout, combined with comfortable seating and visitor amenities. This popular venue holds 18,119 visitors for basketball games and 11,411 visitors for ice hockey. You can regularly catch games of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and the NCAA's University of Memphis Tigers. Over the years, this versatile stadium has been used for other functions as well. It has hosted the IBF Light heavyweight title contest, numerous World Wrestling Entertainment events, and such musical acts as the Transiberian Orchestra, AC/DC Nickelback, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Rascal Flats, Coldplay, and more.
