Victoria Avenue in Canterbury in Melbourne, AU
Canterbury, a suburb in south-western Sidney, is considered on of Melbourne's most exclusive suburbs. The area on Mont Albert Road that runs west from Balwyn Road and the avenues that connect it to Canterbury Road is known as "Golden Mile". Nestled within this area is Victoria Avenue.
This area of Canterbury has been inhabited by the well-to-do since the early days. Other streets in the 'Golden Mile' include Alexandra Avenue, Hopetoun Avenue, The Ridge, and Monomeath Avenue which is noted for the enormous oak trees, planted in 1911, that line the streets and for the many famous people who have taken up residence here.
Some of the famous residents of Monomeath Avenue include Mark Eddy (Australian GT Champion and Grand Prix Car Driver) Sir Rupert Hamer (Former Premier of Victoria) and Peter Mitrakas (National Soccer League Champion).
The area was mostly semi-rural until the first subdivision, a brainchild of Michael Logan, was cronstructed in 1885 which covered the area of Canterbury Road, Bryson Street, Prospect Hill Road and Logan Street. It was known as the 'Claremont Park Estates'. Many of the streets along the 'Golden Mile' are named after the early settlers or their properties, the most renowned being Logan and Monomeath Avenue.
Victoria Avenue isn't as popular as her sister street, Monomeath Avenue, where Australia's elite socialites make their homes inside plush mansion estates. But, it's still has some of the finest homes in all of Canterbury. Considering the beautiful homes, manicured lawns and lavish pools and gardens, owning a home on Victoria Avenue will certainly cost a small fortune.
