St Patrick's campus is part of the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Melbourne, Australia. It came into existence in 2002 as the result of the amalgamation of 2 ACU Melbourne Campuses: Mercy and Christ. Yet, the roots extend further back in time. The campus dates back to the decision of Archbishop of Melbourne, Doctor Thomas Carr to provide continuing education. He renovated the old Exhibition Boot Factory for classes and opened it in 1903. This old 1873 building is still in use. He then purchased nearby property for expansion. On this he built the Central Hall in 1904. It is still in operation. After a renovation between 2002 and 2007, it is modernized and utilized daily. Today, it is part of a complex of buildings. Within, you will find, besides classrooms, a library, gymnasium, computer stations, cafeteria, coffee shop, chapel, art gallery, bookshop, student lounge and other amenities. There are no on-campus residences or dormitories.
