Plazuela Machado in Mazatlan, Mexico
The city of Mazaltan on the Pacific Ocean is a growing port city that
is quickly gaining attention among tourists. This new found attention
is due to many variables, among them the lush beaches, rich history,
and spectacular sights. The city has been around for centuries and has
always been a hub for nautical business. There is an old charm around
Mazaltan due to its past. Gothic cathedrals, statues and other
landmarks can be seen in and around Mazaltan.
One of the areas that best typifies Old Mazatlan is the Plazuela
Machado. In 1832, and after the arduous task of diverting the tides,
the plaza was constructed. The plaza is named for Don Juan Neponuceno
Machado who was the wealthiest business man during the time of
construction. Machado donated the land to the City Council in order to
build the plaza.
Today the Plazuela Machado is a favorite for locals and tourists who
enjoy the relaxing scenery. The plaza is surrounded by nineteenth
century buildings, some of which house small cafes and restaurants.
Native flora and fauna can be found that adds to the ambiance of the

afternoon sitting among nature and reading a good book.
The Plazuela Machado has undergone numerous transformations since its
construction. It has fallen in and out of favor among socialites and
visitors; though with the increase in visitors presently, the Plazuela
Machado is sure to remain popular. Visitors to Machado should not miss
