Catedral de la Purisma Concepcion in Mazatlan, Mexico
Mexico has some of the most inspired and beautiful cathedrals in all of
Central America. The heavy influence of the Spanish and Catholicism has
attributed to the construction of wonderful gothic and Moorish
structures that are still respected to this day. Mazatlan, a growing
resort city, is home to the Catedral de la Purisma Concepcion.
The cathedral was constructed in 1875 and is a wonderful example of the
architecture of the time. It is located in the center of the city and
is easily accessible from all parts of the area. The exterior features
twin towers and high arches while the interior is home to statures and
a gilded baroque alter that is simply breathtaking. The ceiling has
high domes providing a sense of awe and space. The Virgin of Guadalupe
has a shrine in the back of the cathedral. The Virgin of Guadalupe
appeared in 1531 near Mexico City and since has been adored by Catholic
followers.
Catedral de la Purisma Concepcion is open from six in the morning to
one in the afternoon and then from four to eight in the evening.
Visitors to the Cathedral are advised to dress appropriately; shorts
are not permitted. Though Mazatlan is a beach town, make sure to change
before entering the cathedral.
Mazatlan is a town founded in history. There are several other
landmarks in and around the city that should not be missed by those
that enjoyed seeing the Catedral de la Purisma Concepcion. The memories
of the Catedral de la Purisma Concepcion will last for a life time.
