Marriage in Mazatlan ? Why Not?

Destination weddings are growing increasingly popular as more and more couples realize the benefits of combining their wedding and honeymoon destination in one location. Getting married in an exotic location offers a unique and memorable touch to the most important day of your life. In most cases, the cost of a destination is no more expensive than a wedding in the United States and might even be less expensive. While many couples choose to go on their own to a tropical location for their destination wedding, others bring their friends and families along as well. Bringing family and friends along for a destination wedding, provides the couple with the opportunity to visit with their guests over a long weekend rather than through a rushed reception.

When selecting a destination wedding location, there are few places that can compare to the tropical beauty of Mozatlan. From the turquoise waters fringing the golden beaches to the cobbled streets reflecting Old World charm, Mozatlan is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations for weddings in Mexico.

If you are planning to be married in Mozatlan you should know that there are no legal requirements which would stop you from doing so. You will need to plan ahead and make sure you obtain a few documents so that you will not have any delays when you arrive for your wedding. Options for being married in Mexico include a legal ceremony which requires you to have blood tests and some legal documents handled in Mexico.

The civil marriage ceremony is the only type of wedding ceremony that has any legal standing and is recognized outside of Mexico. For this ceremony, the couple must provide positive identification such as a birth certificate or passport. After filing the paperwork there is a 3 day required wait for the ceremony. If one or both parties have been divorced, proof that the divorce has been final for at least one year must be provided. Four witnesses are required for the civil ceremony; two for the groom and two for the bride. The ceremony is performed by a government official; however, it may be performed at an outdoor location. After the ceremony, the newly married couple will receive a certificate stating that they are legally married according to Mexican laws.

You can also opt to have the paperwork and the ceremony actually performed at home and then travel to Mozatlan to have your symbolic ceremony on the beach. The latter option often provides the simpler choice for many couples.

A number of resorts in the Mozatlan area cater specifically to destination wedding couples and are able to handle all of the details of your special day including lodging, catering, music and details regarding the ceremony itself.

Hotel Playa in Mazatlan is one of the most popular choices for a destination wedding and has been hosting memorable weddings for more than 35 years. On site locations on the beach are offered in addition to beautiful ceremonies held in their gardens or beautiful reception hall.
