The Fresno Flats Historical Park in Oakhurst, California is a spectacular place to visit and is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Although the area was noted as a gold field, the settlers were concerned with becoming merchants and farmers. Two houses are found within the museum complex. They were built around the 1870's and have been furnished and restored.
They were not original homes to the area, they were moved to Fresno Flats along with some farm buildings, a couple jailhouses and an old school house. The volunteers from the area devoted their time and resources into making Fresno Flats Historical Park a monumental success. You can take tours of the area all day long and plan a picnic, but the museum has hours from ten in the morning to three in the afternoon on weekdays and Saturday and Sunday hours from twelve noon until four in the afternoon.
They also have facilities for group meetings, reunions and weddings. If you are planning an event, you will need to call to plan your event. The museum is closed for the months of February and January when they change exhibits inside the museum.
