This enormous 217-acre park is calling to all nature lovers who plan on vacationing in the Mackinac Island area. It's ideally situated between the shores of Lake Superior and Muskallonge Lake, and is well known for its forests, lakes, and clear, cool streams. This historical park is the former site of an old lumbering town called Deer Park, and before it was called Deer Park, it was an Indian encampment. By 1900 the gorgeous pine trees had been depleted, the mill was closed and the lumbering operation moved to another location.
Here at Muskallonge Lake State Park, there is a playground for children, plenty of water for splashing about and swimming, excellent fishing spots, picnic areas with grills for a lovely family outing, a scenic hiking trail, a snowmobile area, a boat launch site, and more than 150 camp sites, that require a small fee. When visiting the Mackinaw Island area, it may be worth the quick 1 hour drive to Muskallonge Lake State Park.
