Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in the Mackinac Island Area, MI
This poignant museum is the only one in the nation dedicated to the education of the public on shipwrecks that have occurred in the Great Lakes. This interesting museum is full of artifacts and exhibits that examine shipwrecks on the Great Lakes from the early 1800s to a tragic event that occurred in 1995. There is a maritime memorial inside the museum that consists of the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald, which capsized in 1975. Twenty-nine men were lost in that accident. The memorial is dedicated to all who have lost their lives on the Great Lakes. Outside the museum tours of the 1861 Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters are offered. You will be able to see where lightkeepers stayed when guiding ships safely to shore.
