VACATIONS MADE EASY : DESTINATIONS : MACKINAC ISLAND : EVENT CALENDAR
Fort Fright at Mill Creek in Mackinaw City, MI
Visit Fort Michilimackinac in the evening in October for Fort Fright. Fort Michilimackinac is located in Mackinaw City Michigan at the foot of the Mackinac Bridge.
You will walk along the path to the ???water gate??? with campfires blazing the way and story-telling French fur traders will tell you stories about creatures roaming the fort and Mackinaw City. Once inside the fort, many buildings are open with lanterns lighting the way from door to door. Costumed interpreters prepare authentic treats in many buildings. A fiddler roams through the fort playing music, amongst the howls and cackles of characters such as a were-wolf, witch and mythical lutin. There is also a fire pit with a simmering kettle of hot mulled cider.
Characters that are seen throughout the evening are based on the book Will-O-The-Wisps: French Tales of Mackinac Retold. The book is based on French-Canadian folktales brought to Mackinac in the heigh of the French fur trade.
Treat bags are available for the children as they leave the Fort after Fort Fright.
