Mackinac Island Carriage Tours
There's no better way to see the unique and interesting scenery of Mackinac Island than by horse-drawn carriage.

Lovely Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City are two of the most picturesque and friendly spots in Michigan whether you're taking a family trip or sneaking a romantic getaway. Be sure to enjoy either a carriage tour or ferry ride in this richly historic town.

Historic Hotels:

The Lake View Hotel is listed as a Michigan Historic Site since it was originally built in 1858. Of course it's been updated and renovated since its grand opening and now includes the Pilot House Restaurant, Annie's Pub, specialty shops and spacious banquet rooms. Its style and charm is second to none with a four-story atrium, which houses a sauna, whirlpool and indoor heated pool. If you're thinking about taking your sweetie for a carriage tour, the hotel offers babysitting services for a slight fee. The carriage rides are a 30-minute walk from the hotel.

Chippewa Hotel Waterfront:  Another quaint spot on the island is the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront with its Victorian charm. Located right on the harbor, this landmark hotel is rich in history and decor. Everything is located within walking distance since the Chippewa is right on Main Street. Rooms overlook city street view or waterfront. Just because it's an antique, don't think they haven't updated and added all the niceties of this century! You'll find refrigerators and microwaves available, a hot tub and onsite restaurant and lounge. Their early morning coffee brewing makes even the grumpiest put on a smile.

Hotels:

The word grandiose understates the beauty and elegance of the Island House Hotel located within the boundaries of the Mackinac Island State Park. Breathtaking beauty abounds inside and out. Amenities include: refrigerators and microwaves, high-speed Internet access and use of the business center. Families can swim in the indoor pool or enjoy the whirlpool and sauna. There's even a quaint gift shop with souvenirs. The onsite restaurant and lounge serve up delicious fare so you all you need are to pack your bags and get ready for a little island fun!

In town, the Parkside Inn in Mackinaw City boasts three beautiful sights: a spectacular view of Lake Michigan, the Mackinaw Bridge as well as the largest indoor swimming pool in the entire area! Within walking distance to the beach, Fort Mackinac, the Mackinac ferry and numerous restaurants, there's tons of fun to be had. Kids say, "We love the free hot breakfast bar and game room!" For those who want to stay steady on their workout program, the Parkside has a great fitness center and hot tub for soothing your aching muscles.

Resorts:

If you're kids are old enough, and you're ready for a family trip with the hopes of a little romance, look no further than the Ramada Inn Conference Resort. The kid's suites come with bunk beds, Nintendo, games, beanbag chairs and board games galore. Each private kid's suite adjoins the main deluxe/standard room. Once the kids are ready to roar outdoors, right next-door is a miniature golf. After outdoor fun, come in and have a splash in the indoor pool! Enjoy room service or dining at the onsite restaurant. Parents enjoy the complimentary newspaper, continental breakfast and shuttle service, which is provided to and from all three ferries, which go to Mackinac Island. The Ramada Inn Conference Resort is kid-friendly, pet-friendly and provides excellent handicap access for those with special needs. Mackinaw City is a fun summer retreat for all ages!

It was wonderful. We are glad we were there in early June before the herds came in

I think they try to pack too many people onto the carriages -- otherwise it is a nice ride.
