Nature Musuem near Ludlow, VTThe Nature Museum near Ludlow, VT is located at 186 Townshend Road in Grafton. It is a non-profit, membership-based museum that was founded in 1989.
The goal of the museum is to encourage and create an understanding, respect and fascination for the natural world. A variety of exhibitions are used to achieve this goal. Most of these exhibits are engaging. Many are popular with school programs and outdoor field trips for students. Camps are offered. There are also adult educational programs available. The museum offers numerous educational programs. In 2006 it offered more than 300 education programs to the community. These programs for offered to the general public, to schools and to libraries. The Nature Museum hosted 16 educational multi-day camps for children and also offers teacher training. The museum's exhibits are varied and some are seasonal. There are interactive exhibits where visitors can dig for fossils. There's a hands-on mineral discovery mine exhibit. Visitors can experience what it's like to crawl underground by crawling through a tunnel to investigate underground life. There's a seasonal exhibit of a honeybee hive. Behind the museum is The Village Park. The Village Park is a wooded trail that's great for hiking. Maps are available inside the Nature Museum. The Nature Museum at Grafton is also responsible for managing the Bellows Falls Fish Ladder and Watershed Visitor Center. This center has activities, displays and exhibits that focus on the Connecticut River. It's owned by TransCanada Utility Company. The museum offers memberships. Prices for memberships vary from $15 (senior/student) to $250 (patron). General admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for children 3 to 12. The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.
