People make the trip to the New England region of the United States, and to Vermont in particular, for many reasons. Some go in early spring, late fall and winter to enjoy the magnificent ski conditions. Others enjoy the hiking and camping experience in this gorgeous setting. These alone are major industries for the Green Mountain area. But others, usually the more casual tourist, visit to learn about and experience the fascinating world of maple, and all the great products that come from the tree.
Martin's Maple Farm, operated by the Thomas Martin family in Chester, Vermont, is a family-owned business that offers only pure Vermont products from the local maple trees. One of the key activities in this region is the educational tour, that shows visitors just how the maple tree is tapped for its unique sap. The process of turning this natural treasure into syrup and other fine products is the focus of many a tourist's day.
Located at 2136 Rockingham Road, near Chester, Martin's Maple Farm is open all year. The Sugar House and Store are particularly interesting to visitors and the Martins invite visitors to view the Sugar House process. In addition, group tours are welcome at Martin's Maple Farm, though the busy season can sometimes be the best for learning about this age-old industry. Groups are asked to call for tour reservations. Visitors may also want to enjoy some of the wildlife in and around the farm, while enjoying lunch or a maple product at an outdoor table. Martin's Maple Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Wednesday.
