Step back in time and enjoy a travel experience on the Green Mountain Railroad. Passengers get the chance to see the country from a different perspective and view waterfronts, bridges and panoramic views of Vermont country. There is a range of scheduled services and daily special tours on the trains, pulled by the green and yellow steam engines, incorporating visits to other attractions. The tours are suitable for passengers of all ages and there is a snack bar onward the scheduled services, and refreshment included on the special tours.
There are a number of places where passengers can board the trains including Bellows Falls, White River Junction and Burlington. The journey from St Johnsbury northwards to Newport is one of the most scenic routes, offering superb views of New England. Traveling from White River Junction passengers can stop at Farm-Way and shop for clothes, furniture and gifts or visit the Montshire Museum of Science.
From Bellows Falls hop on board the Green Mountain Flyer for a two hour trip to the historic Chester Depot. The railroad follows both the Connecticut and William Rivers and passes the waterfalls at Brockaway Mills. Don't forget to look skywards for glimpses of eagles soaring overhead. From Bellow Falls station there are full-day trips to Rutland, and also in the fall, to the Chili Fest and wine tasting events in Ludlow.
Burlington has a host of festivals through the summer including firework displays, and food and beer festivals. During the summer the Green Mountain Railroad brings train loads of people to the town to enjoy the celebrations.
