It would be an understatement to simply say that Fire Barn in Grafton, Vermont is a good place to find gourmet foods and sweets. While this is certainly true, Fire Barn is really more than a food store and confectionary. Along with numerous other destinations in and around historic Ludlow, Vermont, Fire Barn draws local residents and visitors with its delicious stock of maple syrup, preserves, gourmet food and collectibles.
Located at 198 Townshend Road, Fire Barn is a wonderful place to shop and while away a few minutes or an hour. (If you have trouble finding it, just look across from the library.) Fire Barn, a local staple in the economy, is run by Pat Mack and employee Phil Babcock.
Many of the more interesting sites in this small Vermont town are conveniently located within walking distance of Fire Barn. So those wishing to hit a few of the shops on their trip to Vermont's historic area might want to include Fire Barn on the must-see list. The Nature Museum of Grafton is also on Townshend Road, as is the Grafton Village Cheese Company.
One great example of the excellent food items available at Fire Barn is Purple Chef marmalades and chutneys. These hand-prepared treasures are absolutely top-shelf items. This is but one example of how community leaders are careful to combine quality food items in a retail setting with careful development and preservation of a historic area. There are no so-called mega-stores in Grafton, just smaller, family-owned shops with unusual and unique products. Fire Barn is closed on Thursday and Sunday. (802) 843-2499.
