The falls of the Ohio stretch from Indiana to Louisville. From Louisville you cross the Ohio river and this brings you out to the Falls of Ohio which is a State Park and visitors centre in Clarkesville Indiana. It is a wildlife conservation bi-state area on the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky in the United States. The park is open seven days a week from dawn unitil dusk.
The park is famous because of its three hundred and eighty six million year old fossil beds. The fossil bed is overlooked by the park's interpretive centre. The centre contains an exhibit gallery and visitors can watch a video presentation.
There are a lot of activities in the park including fossil watching, bird watching, fishing and hiking. Many people also take a picnic along with them when visiting the park. Fossil collecting itself is not permitted but visitors are still invited to explore the ancient sea bed and the different types of fossils that it holds.
The best time of year for visiting the two hundred and twenty acres of fossil beds is from the beginning of August til the end of October. It is also possible to book a tour of the beds to view th fossils there. The park hosts educational programs aimed at visitors of all ages. When you have come to the end of your visit to the park then it is possible to visit the gift shop. Here you will find plenty to interest you and some mementos to take home to remind you of your visit.
