My Old Kentucky Home State Park also consists of Federal Hill, which was once a plantation owned by the prominent Rowan family. As you tour the place, you'll hear stories about the Rowan family as well as view the formal gardens, the smokehouse, carriage house in addition to the rare but beautiful furnishings in these houses. Although the Rowan house recently had some restorations done to it, the carpet and wallpaper was purchased from the same company that provided it in the 1800s.
When Stephen Foster, who was a cousin to the Rowans, visited this park, it gave him the incentive and inspiration to write the song, My Old Kentucky Home, which is still known by many today. The park has an amphitheater for Foster's musical-Stephen Foster-The Musical. There are also other musicals that are played in this park. This is a great place to spend the day.
