The award-winning Louisville Zoo is an entertaining and interesting attraction.& It has major exhibits of over 1,300 animals in natural habitats, and features some of the big favorites such as gorillas, polar bears, lions and tigers. The zoo is split into different geographical areas and habitats — the Islands, African Veldt, Asian Plains, North and South American Panorama, Aquatics and Australian Outback.
All kinds of living creatures can be found at the zoo. The Herp Aquarium has over 100 species of reptiles, amphibians and fish. Take a stroll through the Wallaroo Walkabouts where you can be among wallaroos, wallabies, and Australian birds, or look overhead in Lorikeet Landing to see the brightly colored birds.
One of the main attractions is the Gorilla Forest - an award-winning exhibit where you can walk along the Discovery Trail and discover the Hippo Falls. There are eleven western lowlands gorillas and two pygmy hippos, and this exhibit brings together the animals, habitats and the culture of Africa.
The Islands area is a multi-species exhibit where all the animals are either endangered or threatened species. The Islands features an Indonesian village setting with a stream and monsoon forest. You should be able to spot the Sumatran tiger, orangutan and tapirs here.
The new Glacier Run will feature polar bears, seals and sea lions. Some of the daily popular events include the elephant and gorilla feeding, and talks by the keepers. Other attractions include the Glacier Run Splash Park, Zoo Tram, antique carousel, and the Outpost and Billabong playgrounds.
