While visiting Locust Grove, you will be able to see several different things besides that house itself! In fact, you will be able to see the entire 55 acres including the 1790 house and outbuilding; all the different gardens, and also the life of General George Rogers Clark; whom was not only a Revolutionary War hero but also the founder of Louisville!
It was not until 1790 that Lucy Clark and William Croghan, whom were married, started the creation of Locust Grove; along with 30 African slaves. Through the years, there were many Major's, General's, and President's that would go through the doors!
Locust Grove is known to be one of the finest houses that was built in the late 18th century in Jefferson County. It was not until 1961 that it became the possession of Jackson County and also the commonwealth of Kentucky. It was after the state restored the history house and opened for the public in 1964! Upon opening you were able to see the 1790 Georgian house, the very original smoke house, eight stone farm buildings, formal gardens, herb gardens, annual and perennial beds, along with woods and meadows.
Inside the house, you are able to see some of the original, finest Kentucky furniture, prints, pictures, tiles, many domestic pieces as well as certain artifacts that belong to the Clark and Croghan families.
