In 1980, the General Assembly of Kentucky formed a partnership to build the Louisville Kentucky Center for the Arts. The center has hosted gala events, Presidential Debates and other events, which includes concerts, plays and operas. With the additional fifty-nine hundred square feet added in 2000, the center is large enough to house any type of event or performance.
The Kentucky Center of the Arts has provided many informational and instructional events for the community. Many programs join the center such as the Creative Connections program, Governor's School for the Arts, Arts Institute and Arts and Education Showcase as well as the ArtsReach program, which was the first established program.
The center has tours available that include the Behind the Scenes Tour, where you have a first hand look at the history of the center. The Art Collection Tour, which is a self-guided tour where you see the works of Nevelson, Calder and Miro. You might even enjoy an internship at the center that provides you will a wealth of information. The Kentucky Center of the Arts is for all ages and offers historical artworks and a view of the most spectacular performance halls in Kentucky.
There are four separate theatres within the Kentucky Center, which can also be rented for special occasions as well as events and parties. The entire Kentucky Center of the Arts is dedicated to the world of performance with musicals, plays and concerts. They also offer schools for performers who want to study the art of dance or music.
