The Jim Beam American Outpost is a tourist center designed for and about Jim Beam, the famous producer of his brand of bourbon. The center is inside what appears as an old tobacco barn. The Outpost is located on the site of the Jim Beam Distillery. Here you will be privy to tours to learn bout the making of bourbon as well as learning about distilleries. Behind the Outpost you will find a moonshine, which is said to be the oldest in America as well as being authentic and one of a kind. What makes the Jim Beam bourbon so smooth and tasty is the limestone water in the area, a characteristic that has added to their talent for over 200 years.
The Beam family home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a historic building from the early 1900s. Although it has been restored from what it looked like prior to the Prohibition, you can still view it today. You'll find a Family History Room, which has many photographs of the family and area as well as heirloom memorabilia. A testing parlor, which also has been restored, is part of this very interesting tour. There's also a gift shop on the site.
