Mansions always attract a lot of attention. The Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site located in Indiana is a mansion that draws visitors from all over the nation. This mansion was built in 1867 for William S. Culbertson, a wealthy business of the area. The mansion was eventually purchased by the State of Indian's Historic New Albany in the mid 1960s.
It is believed that Culbertson spent more than $100,000 on the lavish Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site. The mansion is truly an impressive structure. The mansion features a beautiful staircase that is made of carved rosewood, ceilings that are hand painted, and several fireplaces that are made of marble. Like most mansions, its chandeliers are made of crystal. The mansion features three levels and exhibits a French style. There are more than 20 rooms in the mansion and the total square footage is over 20,000.
You can visit the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site during the months of April and December. During these months, the mansion is open to the public from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. The mansion is closed on Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Easter, Veterans Day, Primary Election Day, and Election Day. The parts of the mansion that are open to the public include the kitchen, laundry room, bedrooms, parlor, and dining rooms. Admission for adults over the age of 11 is $3.50, seniors (over 55) pay $3, children older than three years old pay $2, and students pay $1.
