If you're interested in the Civil War era and the individuals involved, the Civil War Museum near Louisville, KY is an excellent place to visit. Located in Bardstown, Kentucky, this museum is located in what was once the town's icehouse and water works and consists of a 8,500 square feet totally renovated building. There is a variety of Civil War museums in the United States, and this one is the fourth largest. They also have added an addition to the museum with their women's section. Although many don't realize it, women often played a large part during the wars, whether as nurses, spies, soldiers are just wives of soldiers with many interesting stories to be told. This museum has many artifacts, paintings and clothing symbolic to the women that served in the service to help in the war.
There are some very interesting exhibits here with one of them being the Pioneer Village, which is a colonial village reproduction with real cabins dating from 1776 to the early 1800s. Some of the other exhibits you'll find here are many different military clothing worn by the soldiers or military personnel. And example of some interesting items are Brigadier General William Woodroof's items such as frock coat, line sword, presentation sword, officer's eagle spur and more. You'll also get to tour the Old Bardstown Village and see how it was during that era.
There is also a Civil War Museum in Paducah, Kentucky that is located in what was once the home of Confederate General Lloyd Tilghman. It's been totally restored since it became a museum. It offers a large variety of programs and lectures to interested individuals as well as being filled with exhibits from the Civil War.
