For two weeks before the Kentucky Derby, Louisville annually holds a celebration with dozens of events such as fireworks displays and parades to commemorate the always historical race.
The events are always varied, and always turn out to be a truly amazing time in the area. Some of the highlights of the annual event include: Thunder Over Louisville, a fireworks spectacular that gets the festivities going; Third Bank $1 Million Dollar Hole-In-One Contest; and a variety of races that include everything from and balloons to steamboats and traditional running.
Along with the main events, the Kentucky Derby Festival also hosts a number of other events to keep the two weeks prior to the derby filled with fun and excitement. From parades to wine tastings, there's something for every member of the family during this all-encompassing event.
