Bargain hunters can find hidden treasures in the parking lot of Fairfax High School, where every Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00 the hippest flea market in town takes place. The Melrose Trading Post is a unique venture created by students and a local theatre company to raise money for activities and supplies not provided by the school budget. Completely run by different student groups each week, the market features nearly two hundred vendors selling everything from vintage clothing and furniture to collectible toys and games to jewelry and watches.
The market's trendy neighborhood location draws a chic crowd of almost three thousand people, making the event one of the most successful ongoing fundraising events in the history of the school district and providing students with the means to buy books, instruments, uniforms, computers, and athletic equipment. Visitors can complete the day with a relaxing Sunday brunch at one of the many hip eateries in the area.
