Surrounded by wetlands, flower gardens and sandy beaches, the Malibu Lagoon State Beach offers a unique array of natural elements to enjoy. Surfers will want to check out Surfrider Beach, one of the premier surfing spots in Southern California, while fishermen should head toward the famous Malibu Pier for some saltwater fishing. Those with relaxing in mind can stretch out in the grass by Malibu Creek Bridge, a spot fitted out with picnic tables and a nature area where the birdwatching is excellent.
The nearby Malibu Lagoon Museum and adjacent Adamson House, a 1929 Spanish-Moor residence, house artifacts of Malibu's history from the days of the Chumash tribe to the surfing culture. The Museum offers tours that regale visitors with local legends and anecdotes. Nature lovers can take a guided tour of the wetlands and witness the seasonal comings and goings of monarch butterflies, tidepools, and gray whales.
