Visitors would expect the new permanent home of the Academy Awards to be a spectacular sight, and the Kodak Theatre does not disappoint. Opened in 2001 on Hollywood Boulevard, the 3,400-seat theatre is everything a glamour-seeker could want, from its grand spiral staircase to the opulent interior of the auditorium to the two-story Awards Walk that features glass plaques honoring all of the Best Picture Oscar recipients.
Besides hosting the Oscar ceremony, the Kodak theatre presents a range of live entertainment and has played host to the likes of Prince, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Stevie Wonder, Dixie Chicks, American Ballet Theatre, and Broadway productions, not to mention the popular American Idol finals. Visitors can take a guided tour which is offered seven days a week and features architectural and historical highlights of the theatre and a peek at what goes on behind the scenes on Oscar night.
