The resting place of some of the most illustrious names of Hollywood's Golden Age, the Hollywood Forever Cemetery itself resembles a movie set for a Cecil B. DeMille extravaganza. Egyptian temples, Roman memorials, and Greek statues provide an elegant and peaceful landscape that is so picturesque that it has fittingly been featured in many Hollywood movies. Established in 1899, the cemetery is adjacent to the famed Paramount Studios with a view of the Hollywood sign in the background.
Among the most notable sites are William A. Clark, Jr.'s water-surrounded mausoleum and Douglas Fairbanks' monument and reflecting pool, but visitors will also find the markers for scores of classic stars like Rudolph Valentino, Tyrone Power, Norma Talmadge, Joan Hackett, Victor Fleming, Marion Davies, and Jayne Mansfield, as well as more modern names like Mel Blanc, Peter Finch, and Johnny Ramone. The flower shop at the gate provides visitors with a map of the grounds.
