DA' POETRY LOUNGE at the Melrose Trading Post in Los Angeles, CA

The Greenway Arts Alliance sponsors "Da' Poetry Lounge" Tuesday evening s at Greenway Court Theatre. Along with its annual season of theatre, the cutting-edge open mic poetry and spoken word is now the largest weekly happening of its kind.

For a decade, this standing room only performance unites audiences across cultural, ethnic and age boundaries. It provides an venue for personal expression free of judgment. Each month, the Lounge plays host to "slams" competition, with prizes, and a chance to be part of the regional and national Hollywood Slam team.

Greenway's Melrose Trading Post flea market takes place each Sunday, held in the Fairfax High School parking lot. Three to four thousand browsers shop the offerings of approximately 200 diverse vendors. The Trading post is considered one of the most successful, continuous fundraising efforts for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

With state budget reductions in the past two decades, the public school system needed new funding options to keep after-school programs, arts and funding for new computers. GAA works hand in hand with Fairfax High as a way to support the community.

This weekly market has empowered the Fairfax District to help earn the money they need for these programs.
