Los Angeles is known for many things — for technology, showmanship, celebrity spotting and theme parks. But you can't forget Los Angeles sports! The City of Angels is known as home to the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers team as well as the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. There are also two teams represented in the NBA, include the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers. Over at the WNBA, there are the Los Angeles Sparks, while Major League Lacrosse is represented by the Los Angeles Riptide team and the Los Angeles Avengers represent LA's presence in the Arena Football League. In amateur competition, Los Angeles is home to the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins. The UCLA is certainly the pride of Los Angeles, as it is the most winning championship team in all university sports. There are also Los Angeles representations for Major League Soccer in the Club Deportivo Chivas, and the made-famous-by-Disney team, the Anaheim Ducks. Other teams of merit include the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Galaxy.
You may be wondering what about the biggest sport of them all — the National Football League? At one time Los Angeles hosted not one but two NFL teams in the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Raiders. However, in 1995 Los Angeles lost two of its most promising children, as the Rams moved to Anaheim and the Raiders moved back to Oakland. As of early 2008, there remains no NFL team currently representing Los Angeles. However, there has been heavy interest from both the NFL and individual NFL owners to relocate a team to this big name city. There has been interest expressed in relocating from the Seattle SeaHawks, however making that notion a reality has proven difficult. NFL experts predict that it's only a matter of time before Los Angeles returns to the league represented through an expansion team or relocation.
Los Angeles has hosted the Summer Olympic Games twice, and also holds professional competitions for volleyball and windsurfing, as well as skateboarding and swimming. When it comes to sports arenas Los Angeles has some impressive locations including the Staples Center, which hosts games for the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Sparks, and the Los Angeles Avengers.
Los Angeles is a city associated with success. With two professional basketball teams, a professional baseball team, a professional hockey team, and a hand in various other sports, the City of Angels has much to offer residents and tourists in the way of live sporting events. Whether you are a die-hard sports fan or have a whole family that gathers around the television on Sundays, sports in Los Angeles will keep you rooting for your home team. Imagine the thrill of catching a glimpse of your favorite players at the Staples Center or the Dodger Stadium! When you're planning your next vacation to the Los Angeles area, make room for some major league action from the MBL, NBA and NHL!
