Weather in Los Angeles features warm summers and mild winters, with nearly ideal fall and spring conditions.

Los Angeles in Summer

Summertime in southern California brings warm temperatures with highs of 77 to 84 degrees.  May and June feature clear skies and little fog, but increasing amounts of smog.  This is a great time of year to visit, as shorts and short-sleeved shirts can are comfortable on the warmest days, with jackets being comfortable on cooler days.  July and August bring the marine layer, a morning-time fog phenomenon which may hover over the city until afternoon.  Smog levels peak during July and August, but these are also the driest months of the year.  The sun shines on 96% of the days in July and August, and shorts are comfortable on most days.  Jackets and pants are a good idea for cool evenings.

Los Angeles in Fall

Fall in Los Angeles brings cooler daytime highs in the lower 70s to lower 80s. September and October feature some of the best weather of the year with clear skies and less fog than in the summer months.  November brings the onset of the rainy season, so umbrellas and rain jackets come in handy then.

Los Angeles in Winter

December through February is the rainiest time of the year in Los Angeles, so umbrellas and raincoats are a necessity for busy travelers.  Daytime highs in the winter remain pleasant: 49 to 50 degrees. Winter visitors should also pack a mid-weight jacket, as well as long-sleeved shirts and sweaters for layering.

Los Angeles in Spring

Weather during the spring months in Los Angeles is delightful as spring trees and flowers come into bloom and temperatures are comfortable with averages around 51 to 69 degrees.  Spring days can be either rainy or dry, depending on the weather pattern, so well-prepared visitors should be ready for either sun or showers!
