Los Angeles is known for many things—for being an epicenter of business and technology and for being Hollywood's headquarters, the magical place where cinema is born. However, a tourist cannot underestimate the heavy theme park action in the City of Angels. Whether you are looking for high thrills, wet adventures or live entertainment, Los Angeles can provide you with an exciting family-appropriate vacation with their various theme parks. The most prominent theme parks in the Los Angeles area include Disneyland, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, Knotts Berry Farm and Six Flags. What can you expect of these theme parks in the way of action and entertainment?

Disneyland near Los Angeles, CA

Disneyland is the most famous selection and certainly will be eagerly anticipated by young children. Disneyland has over 60 different featured attractions, including the Space Mountain ride. The Magic Kingdom also has such favorites as the Indiana Jones Adventure (the largest ride in the park in over 40 years), the
Pirates of the Caribbean (newly retooled to pay tribute to the Johnny Depp-vehicle film) and a new stage show entitled The Spirit of Pocahontas. Disney does appeal to children, as well as children-at-heart who remember classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.

Universal Studios near Los Angeles, CA

Universal Studios appeals to slightly older children, and people of all ages, because it focuses on film franchises as opposed to classic characters. You can enjoy the Universal Studios Tour and enjoy exhibits and interactive features dedicated to famous films like Back to the Future, E.T., Backdraft, the Flintstones and King Kong. The rides of Universal Studios also deserve mention, including Shrek 4-D and Terminator 2: 3-D. Other attractions included in the tour are the Hollywood Entertainment Museum, the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theater and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

SeaWorld near Los Angeles, CA

In spring and summer months, Sea World is particularly popular and entertains people of all ages with characters larger than the movies and larger than cartoons: that is, real life exotic animal life!  At Sea World you can get wet on the soaking wet on the Shipwreck Rapids and moments later, interact with dolphins and polar bears. Shamu is the star of the show and along with sea lions and walruses, this killer shark steals an already fantastic show. Another perk is that a SeaWorld San Diego Admission Tour also buys you transportation to and from the park!  No more battling Los Angeles traffic to see the stars of the sea.

Knotts Berry Farm near Los Angeles, CA

Knotts Berry Farm is America's first theme park, founded in the early 1920's, and still continues to be a popular attraction and is divided into seven different divisions: Independence Hall, Ghost Town, Fiesta Village, The Boardwalk, Camp Snoopy, Wild Water Wilderness and Indian Trails. Finally, there's Six Flags, the world's largest chain of theme parks if you go by numbers, and one affiliated with Looney Tunes characters. 28 million guests a year suggest it is second only to Disneyland and Disneyworld. Los Angeles may be known for many things, but once you experience the many attractions, you may refer to LA as the City of Theme Parks.
