The Magical Forest at Opportunity Village
Caring and generous volunteers have made the Magical Forest at Opportunity Village the most heartwarming holiday event that Las Vegas can offer, with all the proceeds going to programs and services for those with intellectual disabilities. A holiday-themed park, the Magical Forest began in 1992, eventually developed as a major fundraiser for Opportunity Village-- an organization which serves over 800 individuals as a vocational training site, employment, and social recreation services for hundreds of individuals.
With the village's resident waiting list for programs and services, over 200,000 visitors arrive every year at the Magical Forest to see the Magic Castle and his beaded man from the North Pole, while helping support this popular charity. This year's holiday event will be on Saturday, November 22-December 30, 2008, operating nightly with millions of lights, exciting rides, and festive displays. Every year new holiday attractions add to the magic atmosphere, making Las Vegas' Magical Forest the place to go during the winter. With 70-90 volunteers operating each night's tours for tour groups and viewers, the entire family can have an exciting time enjoying the Forest Express Trains and spending time with Santa Claus.
Located on one-and-a-half acres, every year a new theme is used for volunteers and participates to put together. Using 3-million lights and 15-foot candy canes, additional fun is the animated figures and two train rides for this holiday wonderland. And when that is done, check out Ye Old Craft Cabin with a craft fair inside a real-time log cabin. But don't forget, an old-time Carousel Park with a colorful carousel and lights is magnificent to not only look at, but take a ride on amidst the twinkly holiday lights!
