When Las Vegas, Nevada is mentioned, "Chinatown" is not the first word that comes to mind. Few people outside of Vegas know that the city is indeed home to a bustling Chinatown, complete with authentic Asian restaurants, supermarkets, and a spectacular Chinese New Year celebration. Las Vegas' Chinatown was opened in 1995, revitalizing a formerly run down neighborhood. This area is actually home to many Asian nationalities, including Korean, Filipino, Thai, and Vietnamese residents. The area is located about one mile west of the Strip and is easily accessible by bus or taxi. Chinatown is easily the best place in Vegas to get Asian food, from roast duck to pho to boba tea.

The best time to visit Las Vegas' Chinatown is at the time of Chinese New Year, which usually falls in January or February. On the day of Chinese New Year, an all-day celebration is held at Chinatown Plaza, the main shopping plaza in Chinatown. Food from all over Asia is served by local vendors, including cuisine from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Many cultural performances take place during the festivities, including the traditional dragon dance, Chinese folk dancing, and martial arts demonstrations. There are also arts and crafts activities for kids, calligraphy lessons, and sessions with Chinese fortune tellers. There is a small admission fee for the event that includes all activities.
