Tahoe State Recreation Area in Tahoe City, CA is one of the most well known camping sites in the area. This is a great place to spend a family vacation. The scenic Jefferey pine and Ponderosa groves make this a beautiful location. Each campsite has metal food lockers, which are bear-resistant so your food will be protected. They do require that all your beverages, food and toiletries be kept in the lockers. For those that love the lake, lakeside campgrounds are available here. Tahoe State Recreation Area is in Tahoe City, a short driving distance to the local restaurants and malls so you're still near enough to civilization for the kids to enjoy themselves!
Tahoe State Recreation Area (SRA) doesn't allow group camping here, but eight people can be at each campsite. Dogs are also allowed, but must be kept on a leash. They are not allowed, however, on the beach, unpaved trails or in buildings. You'll love sitting in front of a campfire at night roasting marshmallows. Just make sure you build your fire in a designated area.
SRA is a great place to come with the family. They have paved roads for mountain bikes or for hiking. Other activities they offer here are badminton, volleyball and horseshoes, just not on the beach or in the campgrounds. There is a lot of open area for these sports and more. SRA is a well-maintained recreational area. You'll love the great outdoors here while you do some fishing or just relaxing. There are bears in the area, so they do recommend keeping everything inside your vehicle or lockers. You may want to have your camera ready, however!
