Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, CA is one of the most beautiful valleys in the west as well as a popular skiing resort. Squaw Valley got its start in 1945 When Alex Cushing and some friends went to the Sugar Bowl for some rest and recreation. Alex broke his left and wasn't able to participate in the fun so wound up watching his friends hiking in the valley. He took the memory of the beautiful valley home with him and put his dream to work.
It took him three years to get his ski resort ready to go, but finally in 1949 Squaw Valley opened to the public with a rope tow, one chair lift and a lodge for the people. It's made quite a few changes through the years, being one of the world's most premier resorts to offer year-round recreation as well as accommodations that are first class.
Alex and his friends and associates have accomplished a lot with Squaw Valley, but their most highly regarded accomplishment was their hosting of the 1960 Winter Olympics. This was a true honor for them.
Today Squaw Valley hosts many events and activities for the public, some of them being lessons and others just fun activities. Saturdays and Sundays brings skiing and riding for beginners. They also provide ice skating, adult ski lessons and snowboard lessons. On certain days of the month, they have what they call "Learn to Ski & Ride Day", which is an adventure to anyone brave enough to join.
You don't have to leave the mountain when you're done with your snow fun. Squaw Valley has more than their share of fine entertainment, restaurants and bars on the mountain and down in the valley. This place offers the best kind of fun for the entire family, especially the children that can't seen to get enough of the snow.
