John Brown Farm in Lake Placid, NY

John Brown Farm in Lake Placid, NY

One place that many people find themselves going to visit when they are in the Lake Placid, New York area is to the John Brown Farm.  For many people it is a very interesting and beautiful place to go.

As many people would think, the John Brown Farm is a very regular and ordinary farm, except for the fact that John Brown was buried at the farm.  In fact, even today people are able to see the tombstone of John Brown with the inscription of Capt. John Brown, as well as others that had died at Harper's Ferry.  It was later on that plaques were added memorializing all the men and women in the Brown family; for all the sacrifices they gave for freedom.  In fact, the farm was the home and final resting place of John Brown; who was the conductor of the Underground Railroad (when slaves were being let free unlawfully).

Ever since 1895, the farm has been owned by the state of New York, and has been cared for by the historic preservation.  For the last 100 years it has been a very popular tourist place.  While visiting the farm, people are able to see many photographs of the men that joined the raid on Harper's Ferry, a historic statue of Brown with his arms around an African-American boy, the well preserved house and barn (dating back to 1859), and many of the original furnishing that are in the home.

Whether you are visiting the John Brown Farm for the first time or you have seen it before, no matter how many times you have seen everything, it will be as if you are seeing it as a first.  In fact, each time you will see more and more things, as well as learn many great things from the life of John Brown.
