Lake Placid is home to the Craig Wood Golf and Country Club formerly known as the Lake Placid Golf and Country Club. Seymour Dunn designed the course in 1925 and it only had nine holes. The back nine holes were added in 1932. The name change was the result of PGA tour winner Craig Wood being a native of Lake Placid and famous for golfing around the world.
A day of golf is varied for weekends and weekdays rates while night rates are lower than day rates. The course has a hundred and fourteen slope rating with a par seventy-two. The rating for this Craig Wood golf course is a seventy-one. The course is open from May until the end of October. The driving range is open and they do have golf carts available to rent.
The Craig Wood Golf and Country Club does have a pro onsite for questions and for taking golf lessons. The restaurant and bar are open for all golfers and usually remains open after dark for everyone to sit and enjoy a cocktail and discuss the day's game. The atmosphere is friendly and the food is tasty.
The course is public, but they do keep the greens and fairway in great golfing condition. You are supposed to put the divots of grass back in place if you happen to hit more than the ball when swinging your golf club. They do have a good reputation for being unique as a golf course with a memorable time every time.
