Lake Placid in the Adirondack mountains of New York State is a favorite vacation spot for New Yorkers and for visitors from out of state. The area is a particular favorite of those who like the cross country skiing that is available in the area and people who want more than just a taste of the great outdoor activities that the Adirondack has to offer its visitors.
If you are vacationing in the winter months then you might want to make a note of the Jackrabbit trail. The Jackrabbit is a public cross country ski trail that runs through four different ski resorts in the Lake Placid area. Lake Placid, along with Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake form what is known locally as the tri-lake region. Both Saranac and Lake Placid are more like villages than towns but they still have plenty to offer the tourists who arrive in the area every year.
Lake Placid is probably best known for having twice been the site of the Winter Olympics. The trails around Lake Placid are one of only three bob sled rides remaining in the Western Hemisphere. Lake Placid is also one of the few places in the United States that offers its visitors sleigh and dog sled rides. For the more adventurous Lake Placid is place that offers guided tours along mountain trails and assisted mountain climbing. Lake Placid is also known for its mountain golf course and is just another activity in which its visitors can take part.
