The 1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum forms part of the Olympic Center. The Museum itself charts the history of the Olympic Games and the sporting events held here. It includes permanent and temporary exhibitions, audio-presentations, and artifacts such as athlete's uniforms and equipment. One hour tours of the Olympic Center are available where visitors can learn about the 1980 Winter Olympic Games known as the 'Miracle on Ice'. In the ice hockey the U.S. Hockey Team was victorious over the Soviet Union.
The Olympic Speed Skating Oval where Eric Heiden won 5 gold medals in 1980 forms part of the Olympic Center, as does the Ski Jumping Complex and the Sports Complex where the bobsled, luge and skeleton runs were located. The Center has ice rinks that are used by hockey teams, and is home to the Smucker's Stars on Ice featuring world-class figure skaters. It is also a performance venue, and Shania Twain and Bob Dylan have both performed here. One of the Center's ice rinks is named the Herb Brooks Arena after the coach who led the U.S. Hockey Team to its 1980 victory.
Tickets are available for individual Olympic sites or alternatively the Olympic Sites Passport can be purchased which provides admission to all the Olympic venues at Lake Placid, and offers discounts for the bobsled, biathlon shooting and gift shop purchases.
