Visitors to Knoxville Tennessee shouldn't leave without going to see the Knoxville Museum of Art. If you are staying in or around Knoxville and have not yet seen all that the city has to offer then a trip out to the Museum of Art might give you more of a flavor of the place. The Museum is located at the World's Fair Park in Knoxville; admission is free if you visit on a Tuesday and the museum is closed on Mondays and open on Sundays from one pm till five. The rest of the week the museum opens at ten in the morning.
Knoxville Museum of Art has plenty to offer its visitors; the Museum began life as the Dulin Gallery of Art in 1961. The current Knoxville Museum of Art opened at the World's Trade Fair site in 1990. The state of the art facility has fifty three thousand and two hundred feet of space. The museum houses somewhere in the region of seven hundred objects of twentieth and twenty first century art. The main collection consists of drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculpture and exhibits of fine craft. The museum hosts exhibitions of the work of emerging artists and this has served to enhance both their national and international reputation.
Besides being a center of excellent exhibits the museum also hosts tours and workshops, providing an artist in residence for the people of Tennessee. There are also outreach programs, lectures and concerts which form a part of the Museum's family educational program.
