North Star Racers in Kimberley, BC
Those who love winter sports and the thrill of speeding downhill on fresh snow will enjoy the east slope resorts of the Purcell Mountains. One of the popular sites for this activity is Kimberly Alpine Resort, a facility associated with racing programs and training presented by the North Star Racers.
North Star Racers is primarily a recreational Friday Night race league, but the group is involved with the sport of downhill skiing and other community activities as well. North Star Racers has an established Code of Conduct and complete membership registration information that makes it easy and fun to take part in the ski experience. In addition, experienced members of the group provide coaching for those interested in downhill racing (Alpine Ski School). In fact, visitors to the resort have the opportunity to take part in ski training, a joint venture by the resorts in the Canadian Rockies, the Alpine Ski School, North Star Racers and the Kimberley Freestyle Club.
One of the key programs available in the area is the Nancy Greene program, in which skiers are placed by speed and skill as well as age. Games and drills make the program fun, while developing skills at a comfortable rate for every individual. The training focuses on both free skiing and racing. At least one race event is included with training.
Ski tickets at Kimberley resort range from a low of about $14 for a ½ day pass for junior skiers to $52 for a full day for adults. Rental skis and snowboards are available.
Those participating in North Star Racers programs may also enjoy conveniently located dining at one of the great restaurants and shops in the area. The night activities include entertainment by local musicians and dance venues. Lodging is widely available as well, with rooms for more than 3,500.
